Short commands are preferred. Praise should be given in a soft tone-maybe even whisper-so that the dog can differentiate the command from the praise. Use the same commands over and over during training. The command "no" should be given in a commanding, sharp tone of voice.<br />I have found personally that "The Gentle Leader" -a head halter- worked best for trying to teach Laila not to pull. Head halters are the best way to stop a persistant puller. Most dogs will resist it but will adapt quickly as they come to associate it with treats and walks. Head halters should not be used on puppies-only strong and determined adult pullers! Whether you want a loyal friend to hang around with or a faithful worker the lab is an ideal breed for you.<br />Labs can learn many different words and commands and aren't just limited to basic obedience commands. Your lab will pick up on certain words like<br />walk,treat, out, and bed.<br />Don't yell and scream when your lab does something wrong - this will just scare him/her and make them afraid of you.<br />Spend 5-10 minutes a day practicing commands with your dog.<br />Always reward good behavior.<br />It is easier to teach good habits than to unlearn bad ones-don't allow your dog to learn bad behavior by PREVENTING it!<br />These are a few basic dog training tips.
